INFOMAR (Integrated Mapping for the Sustainable Development of Ireland’s Marine Resource) is a twenty year programme to map the physical, chemical and biological features of Ireland’s seabed. INFOMAR is funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE), and delivered by joint management partners Geological Survey Ireland and the Marine Institute. During this talk we will learn about what work INFOMAR carries out, what it has to offer in terms of high resolution 3D images of Ireland’s seafloor and shipwrecks and how the data can be accessed on its website.
Eoin has worked as a marine geologist and surveyor with INFOMAR, Ireland’s seabed mapping programme for the last 9 years. The INFOMAR team regularly maps shipwrecks, supplying data to the Underwater Archaeology Unit of the National Monuments Service so that Ireland’s marine heritage can be better understood and conserved
